Hey Everypony, sorry there was no toy review last Saturday, but more on that later! Since I didn't want to waste a blog post on just one little (but awesome!) announcement, I decided to give you collectors who are just starting out some more tips!
This weeks topic: DISPLAYS!
No matter if your collecting Dr. Who or Ponies, they both have one thing in common, they lack Playability (This is now a word.)! With Ponies, unless you decide to go all out on hair styling, ponies don't DO much. All the articulation your going to get out of most of them is the neck. Dr. Who merch, already being sold mainly to adults, is almost entirely display pieces, with most articulation geared towards posing. This makes display absolutely crucial! So, on to the tips!
1. Find a Display area! - This one is complex, so lets break it down into subtips!
> Lighting! Lighting should complement your pieces, and make them stand out!
> View! Whats the point of collecting something if you don't show it off! Place it centrally!
Make it draw the eye! You cant go wrong! (I lied, you can.)
> Keep out of reach of children, pets, mole people! Not much to say about this one.
Just make sure your stuff is safe. A ruined piece is never fun. :(
2. DUST! DUST! AHHHHHH DUST! - Dust is your worse enemy. If you use open shelving, dust is going to be a major concern. The amount of dust depends on a number of factors, so some people are going to have more trouble than others. Just be prepared to clean often.
3. Shelving! - If you have the space and wish to invest in your collections all around health and beauty, nothing beats a good shelving unit! Open shelves are cheap to buy and easy to build, but if you have the cash, don't be afraid to invest in closed glass shelves. Not only will it cut down on dust, but some of the lighting options you can implement are incredible!
Those are the tips I had for you, but your likely going "GET TO THIS AWESOME ANNOUNCEMENT OF YOURS"! So I will. Right now in fact! After a couple tries of writing a text and picture review, I've decided that that not going to work out at all. Instead, I will be doing video reviews which I will post to Youtube and subsequently embed here! Not only will this cut down on the length of my posts, I feel it will provide a much more entertaining and informative experience for you, our viewers/readers/mole people!

Introducing Ponytoyguy!
Hi there! I'm Ponytoyguy (ponychan: tinkertoys, Everywhere else: Beastman309)! I'm going to be reviewing a number of Mlp:Fim and Dr. Who merchandise for this blog.
First, since this is likely a lot of people's first time collecting or first time in a long time desiring toys, I thought I'd give a few tips to thouse starting out.
1. Join forums! Most forums for shows with tie in merchandise often have a section of the forum reserved for the Merch/Toys. These are amazing
resources! You can often find out about a new product weeks in advance as well as being able to track the distribution of a new wave (more about the terminology later.)
2. Get Moving! Often, the only way your going to know if a product is available is to go on what I like to call "The Hunt". Know your local stores, and keep track of their stock. Check often, and check THOROUGHLY! Stock people, especially in toy isles, tend to rush the job, so check the entire area.
3. Know the companies! Different companies are exactly like two different people. Each has there own quirks and habits. Hasbro does Mlp:fim, and Character Options does the Doctor Who stuff. (I would go into more detail on Hasbro, but that would take a blog post in itself! Go out into the world and learn this stuff yourself!)
4. Know the Terms! When I first started collecting, forums about the subject were quite hard to understand! Note that most companies release between 2-4 "Waves", small groups of toys, a year. Be on the look out for "Store Exclusives". They can turn bad distribution situations into absolute nightmares.
5. When all else fails, use the internet! You're not going to be able to find everything in stores. Its just a sad fact of life. In these instances, often the only solution is to look online. Most major retailers have online stores with most, if not all, products available in stores.
Welp, now that that rambling is out of the way, I just wanted to say how proud and excited I am to do some reviews! First on the list is ether the Playful Ponies set (basic single packed figures), or an undecided Dr. Who product. Here's to the start of an amazing blog!
